Tied to a chain with a heavy padlock
This brown dog was terribly abused and tied to a chain with a heavy padlock. It was decided to put her to sleep to put her out of her misery.
Not wanted by owner
This poor dog, infested with ticks was brought to the shelter, unwanted by his owner.
The CSPA promotes flea, tick and lice control by using tickcollars, special shampoo or top spot.
Too weak to stand on her feet
After a call from worried citizens this dog were picked up off the streets in the neighbourhood Marchena in a very sorry state of starvation and too weak to stand on her feet.
It was decided to put her to sleep to put her out of her misery.
Wounded in a traffic accident
According to the owner this poor dog was wounded in a traffic accident. The owner did not seek medical assistance, resulting as a consequence in the severe infection of the wound. The flesh started to decompose and maggots were emerging from all over the poor animals face. The owner was booked, the dog was confiscated by the cruelty inspector and the shelter personnel put him to sleep to end his misery. Such lack of interest and compassion from a human being upon which an animal is completely dependent, is staggering.
Broken leg
This poor dog was in his owner's yard for several days suffering from terrible pain caused by a major wound on a broken foreleg. He also had a broken hind leg. Neighbours called the Animal Shelter and after having tried to locate the owner several times in vain, the dog was taken from the yard and brought to the vet. It is not known yet what happened to the animal, his wound and broken legs may have been caused by an accident or by mistreatment. Regardless of the circumstances, the owner failed to obtain medical assistance for his pet and this is a punishable offence. Regretfully it was necessary to put the poor dog to sleep.
Covered in serious burns
This poor dog is a friendly stray that used to live in the streets of Sun Valley. He was fed by the inhabitants and was named Bronzy. One day he arrived at a home, covered in serious burns to his head, back, large parts of his left side and leg. The inhabitants of the home were deeply moved and called the Animal Shelter for help. Employees of the shelter picked the poor animal up and brought him to the Veterinary Clinic where he received medical treatment. It was decided to give this beautiful brown male a chance to live. He received intensive care and recovered from these dreadful wounds.
We did not succeed to find a new owner for Bronzy, in the beginning he stayed at the shelter as our house pet and was later on adopted by shelter manager Andrew Berry where he lives happily and comfortably in a surrounding where he is welcome and loved.
Starved to death
When paying a visit to a family on Monday September 17 to check the situation of Micro, a shelter dog that had been adopted, the CSPA was confronted with two Ridgebacks in a very sorry state of starvation, and Micro who had also obviously not been receiving enough food. The dogs were all confiscated and brought to the veterinarian who diagnosed that the animals were in a very bad condition and suffering from anemia. They also were infested with parasites which were affecting their skin. One of them also had a severe infection and was so weak that she hardly could stand on her feet. They were confiscated and brought to the shelter.
In spite of the very best efforts of the shelter personnel, volunteers and vets one of the three animals did not recover, became desperately ill and had to be put to sleep.
Abandonned
One of the shelter volunteers found this poor dog tied to a tree to die a certain death of starvation. He permitted her to untie him and put him on a leash. He was obviously terribly hungry and started eating right away his ears were both perforated and showed identical holes, and wounds over his whole body proved that the poor animal had been cruelly mistreated.
The intention initially was to take him in at the shelter and nurse him back to health, but after consultation with the veterinarian it was decided to put him to sleep to put him out of his misery.
The exceptional ignorance and cruelty of this dogs former owner is astounding. As citizens of this island none of us have reason to be proud until such witless acts of barbarity cease to occur.
