CuraƧao Foundation for the Protection of Animals
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSIf I take my cat or dog to the shelter to leave it there, what will they do with it?First it will be checked why you do not longer want to keep your pet. If this is, to our discretionary, a valid reason, we will take in your pet in exchange for a small charge, after our vet has checked whether the animal is healthy and whether there is chance it will be adopted again. Our aim is of course to give each animal that comes in a second chance. The costs associated with the take in of animals, can be found in our shelter policy. When will the shelter not just take in the animals which the owners want to leave at the shelter? If the reason of leaving the pet is one of the following:my dog barks too much.my dog/cat chews or scratched my stuff/furniture (the dog/cat can be trained not to do this)my dog has flees/ticks. (This can be easily treated.)my dog has scarf. (This can be easily treated)I don't like the dog/cat any longer, I want another one.In the above situations the staff members of the shelter will use their best endeavours to convince the pet owners that it's not necessary to leave the pet at the shelter and advise them on how to solve the "problems" with their pet(s).My cat/dog is old and sick and I want to have it euthanized to release it from its misery. Can I come to the shelter for this? No, in such case you would have to go to your own vet. The shelter does not provide services to individuals for euthanizing their vet, but does this in exceptional cases when this is required. Does the Curacao Society for the Protection of Animals also pick up dead animals? No, if a dead animal needs to be transported, you should call Selikor at +599 9 434 1303.What to do if I run into neglected stray dogs/ stray cats?In such case you can call our complaint officer at +599 9 518 8340 or send him/her an email (klachten_dierenbeschermingcuracao.com). He or she shall deal with the complaint and give you instructions what to do. Furthermore, you could try to catch the animal yourself and take it, in exchange for a small charge, to the shelter.
