The OPSC project (Operation Pet and Stray Control) which has as a main objective the education of the local populace about responsible pet ownership and in particular the importance of animal sterilization, was resumed in the neighborhood of Noord Zapateer. On December 13 employees and volunteers of the Animal Shelter visited this neighborhood to distribute flyers and provide information. Demonstrations were given as to how to prevent sicknesses such as tick fever, tapeworm and mange by combating parasites like ticks, fleas and mites. Many dogs in this neighborhood have mange and the owners of those animals were taught how to treat this sickness in a simple and not too expensive way.
Endeavours also include convincing pet owners of the necessity of securing their pets during the fireworks, and of keeping them inside; sterilization of two (or more) animals per family with only a small contribution towards cost; confinement of stray dogs and firm action against neglect and cruelty.
This project was made possible thanks to a generous donation from the Oranje Casino Read more>>

The traditional Fundraising Coffee Recital was held on Sunday October 5 at the Cultural Center Curaçao at Emmastad. The popular group ‘Two by Two’ that dedicate themselves to the art of singing in ‘close harmony’ sang a range of songs some of which were skillfully choreographed.
The performance was appreciated very much by the audience and turned out to be a tremendous success! During the pause the guests paid a visit to the "stand where calendars, books, T-shirts and other attractive items were sold. All proceeds of this yearly concert (about Nafl 3,000 go to the Animal Shelter. A fundraising event with a very positive result!

Annually from 1989, around the time of "Animal’s Day", a project named "Yuda Nos Asiel" ("Help our Animal Shelter") has been organized. Children aged between 4 and 14 from the local schools each bring a bag or can of pet food to school, which is then collected by volunteers to bring to the Shelter. This project is supported with much enthusiasm by parents, teachers and pupils and is always a success, proving that our children do love animals, that they absorb what they are taught and shown about the animals.

Drastic measures have been taken to prevent an increase in victims: the shelter is closed to visitors, unwanted dogs cannot be accepted and dogs that remain in the shelter will not be offered for adoption until the situation is under control
