More than 1.100 animals sterilized as per September 13!

The sterilization program has been very successful and resulted in a total of 1.109 animals that were spayed or neutered until September 13.
926 animals (715 dogs and 211 cats) were sterilized via the shelter in the period of January 4 – August 28 2009. In connection with the Free Sterilization  Project’ , financed by Oranje Casino, 183 animals (163 dogs and 20 cats) were sterilized in the short period of six weeks from August 4 – September 13.
Coordinator Ivette Knol with her team of volunteers visits the neighborhoods and helps the inhabitants who have problems with their animals. Information about pet care, distribution of food and medicines, demonstrations how to treat mange and appointments for spaying and neutering are Ivette’s daily tasks, including the transportation of the animals to the different animal clinics. Even during the weekends Ivette and her team can be found in neighborhoods where people need help for their pets.

Awareness campaign –Exhibition ‘Animals in focus’ – ‘Free sterilization project’

Projects in connection with the 60th anniversary of CSPA:
On June 2 a press conference was held to announce the projects to be undertaken in connection with the 60th anniversary of CSPA (Stichting Dierenbescherming Curaçao).  In cooperation with the WSPA an awareness campaign will be organized from September 14 - October 24. This campaign, which will be executed via the media, has as main objective to make pet owners aware of their responsibilities towards their pets.

From October 13 – October 24 the WSPA’s exhibition ‘Animals in focus’ will take place in the Public Library with photos of animals from all over the world. This exhibition is in connection with the WSPA’s campaign ‘Animals matter to me’. The objective is to achieve recognition and protection of animals around the world by joining a global voice of 10 million supporters to achieve a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare at the United Nations. Visitors to this exhibition will be able to sign the petition, as well the whole community, including the schools.



The exhibition is also dedicated to highlighting the projects and activities organized by Stichting Dierenbescherming Curaçao to achieve a better living environment for animals on this island.
At the opening, which will take place on October 13, a DVD of a new production educating the young on how to take care of their pets will be officially presented. This DVD will be distributed free of charge to schools.

ORANJE CASINO finances sterilization of 1,250 dogs and cats

During a press conference held on August 3 at the Neighborhood Centre of Souax, Dierenbescherming launched a project giving pet owners the opportunity to have their pets sterilized completely free of charge.
For the fourth consecutive year Oranje Casino, an internet casino that can be visited at www.oranjecasino.com, has supported the Dierenbescherming with a substantial donation. The donation for 2009 was destined for an animal ambulance which was officially put into use in June and also the ‘Sterilization project’ that will finance sterilization of 1,250 dogs and cats all over the island. The project started on August 4 in Souax and Mahuma and has as its main objective a decrease in the overpopulation of pets, roaming and stray animals on the island through education of the local populace about the importance of responsible pet care animal and the provision of operations free of charge.
Thanks to Oranje Casino and the Casino players, who determine the good cause to which they donate their bonus points, we are delighted with the fantastic opportunity to organize this important project.
